A picture is worth a thousand words.
As bloggers, we know that one of the toughest parts of the job is finding the perfect image to accompany a post. We are aware that images are one of the most important components for engagement, but unless you’re willing to pay significant costs for access to a database, trying to find free stock photos can be incredibly time-consuming.
Side Note About Licenses
License terms apply with free stock photos. The images are usually licensed under creative commons, which means that you can modify, copy, and distribute the work (even for commercial purposes) without having to ask for permission. You cannot sell them. There are some sites or particular images that might require you to add an attribution of some sort, so always be sure to check the permissions of the images you want to use.
I’ve done my best to list the general license terms beside each site below.
To help you get rid of this headache, I’ve compiled a list of 11 free stock photo sites that you can bookmark for easy reference whenever you’re having trouble getting the right picture.

PhotoPin helps bloggers find photos for their blog and makes adding them to their post fast and easy. Just search for any topic using the search box (e.g. “Kittens“, “Flowers“, etc.), preview the photo, and click “get photo” to download the photo as well as the proper attribution link. PhotoPin uses the Flickr API and searches creative commons photos to use for your blog. (Note: They are not associated with Flickr in any way, other than powering their search results using their API.)
Picjumbo is free stock photo site created by designer & photographer Viktor Hanacek in 2013. It all started when any stock photo site didn‘t want his photos due to ‘lack of quality’. Two years later people downloaded almost three million images from this site.
